It’s been on my mind from a long time to translate my culinary (art) work in black and white. I have always been passionate about food – all types of food and can easily gorge on food at anytime, even with my stomach full. This has almost positioned me as a glutton, wherever I have gone. Not that I care, but for me food gives me ultimate pleasure. Whether extremely happy or happy or sad or extremely sad, only food relaxes me. For me any celebration is not a celebration till a proper meal. As luck goes, my wife Anushka equally shares this passion with me, only thing she is a controlled eater & me completely opposite. There are other things like music, movies, sometimes books also that soothe me, but food is always there, somewhere.
The best place in the house for me is the kitchen – and that’s where I like to be. I would love to have a big kitchen with an island kind of an interior design, but space in Mumbai comes at a huge price and dedicating space worth two rooms is not the best thing, unless you have tons & tons of money.
I regularly venture in my kitchen to make things – right from copying from a recipe book to replicating something I saw on a cookery show to inventing something on my own.
There were many times I wanted to sit back and write all those things I have cooked in my kitchen, whether good or bad. The recent adventures included low-cal Chicken Dum Biryani (*****), Tri-coloured Chicken Seekh with Ajwaini Gravy (***), hakka noodles (****), American chopsuey (****), Chicken cordon bleu (*). Apart from the ones that I remember, there have been occasions where I stir-fry, make saldas or simply chop vegetables.
I would try and make all these things again and many more and capture them in the coming days (except for cordon bleu – the variety I made was a disaster; just couldn’t balance chicken breast, cheese and salami together).
